I'm interested to know if any of you fellow Boxster owners have had any serious engine trouble? |

IMS failure It looks like I have an IMS failure. 2005 Boxster S, 34300 miles full Porsche service history. I have owned the car for 5.5 months and only done 3000 of those miles. Porsche did the 111 point check the week before - all OK! The car made few scrapping noises like a fan blade rubbing on something. Then a strange gurling noise followed by a slight misfire. I drove the last 10 miles home slowly. Next day a pool of oil under the car and it sounded like a tractor when I started it. I will let you know if the non Porsche warranty or the dealer over the repair cost. I was worried about IMS when I bought the car but thought the odds were small.. Perhaps I should have got the Z4? |

Engine failure Dealer found coolant and oil mixing when I took it in for service. 88000 miles. This type of thing should never happen at this mileage on such an expensive car. I'm not going to pay for an engine change that would cost more than just buying a different one. Gonna go with a new 370Z. |

Engine seized at 21,000 miles Put the vehicle in reverse, backed out of my garage - engine bucked and shut off - turned out the engine seized at 21,000 miles on 2002 boxster - replaced under warranty |

ims failure 2005 BoxsterS 33367/IMS bearing failure. Replaced engine new . Gave loaner for 3 weeks .All at no cost to me .
Present time
3100/ on new engine , rear mail seal leak , dealer charged 200.00,(Porsche picked up the rest of the cost) and replaced IMS bearing as a safeguard no cost to me . Called it IMS cover, dealer is sending me written conformation that the bearing was replaced not just the cover .
Car runs great no other problems.

Sheesh, I have the same problem as you : ( I bought car, oil and coolant started mixing and it overheated really bad! I need to rebuild the engine now : ( |
|
TOTALLY AGREE I agree. I will not buy another boxster, or Porsche for that matter, ever again. Its a waste that such nice cars are built worse than GM cars (ouch! Yeah, I said it and I went there...lol)......My story: IMS, quoted over $15000 for new engine. I'd rather not give Porsche anymore of my hard-earned money. Let them sucker the rich into buying their cars.
Sorry Porsche....You fail! |
|
Same here!!! I will also NEVER buy another Porsche again like what Joe said. I had the same problem as everyone else here...IMS........No sympathy from Porsche...just Bull Sh#T from them as usual.
I dont understand why nobody causes a stink about this? Most people just bend over and take it in the A$$. Someone should sue Porsche for making $hiT cars, especially the boxster. Gunna buy an S2000...............later Porsche!! |
|
PORSCHE IS SH$T !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I will NEVER NEVER NNNNEEEEEEEVVVVVVVVVVEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR EVER buy another Porsche again in my lifetime!!!!!!! 2000 Boxster, engine failure at 50,000 miles. It was due to IMS. Same old story. Trading in my engine-less peice of Sh#@t for an Audi TT or BMW Z4. Should have bought either car in the first place.
GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

IMS Failure -'03 Boxster @ 22,000 miles Just had the dreaded IMS failure at 22,000 miles on my 2003 Boxster 2.7 Facelift.
GUTTED !
£11,000 for a replacement engine, car is worth £10,500 trade - do the maths !!!!
Anbody got any ideas ??? |
|
Engine failure 2005 Boxster 36,000km and six months out of warranty. Catastrophic engine failure - intermediate shaft bearing failure while idling at lights - retaining bolt snapped and end bearing just ground out in seconds.
Porsche dealer who sold me the car second hand with 30,000km on clock obtained an offer from Porsche to supply a factory rebuilt engine fitted free with a two year warranty. Happy with this, and while I believe it was totally warranted, I was pleasantly suprised to get this offer (without having to hastle) given the advice from others. |
|
porsche engine failure 2003 Boxster S IMS failure at 31000 miles, engine replaced under warranty and Porsche gave a $500 dealer coupon plus trip interuption claim. More than most people get! Porsche was more interested in buying VAG stock than in its own company. Maybe now that VW own's Porsche things will be better, maybe. |
|
IMS failure 2003 Boxster S under 25,000 miles, not driven hard at all. CPO car, passed pre-purchase inspection when I bought a year ago. Failed during normal city driving. No sympathy from Porsche, have to shell out over $15,000 for new engine. |
|
IMS failure Just picked up strange engine noise at Idle. Irregular scraping noise, then noise started to 'snap'. Shut down engine, hopefully before further damage. This at 44K miles, 2002 Boxster S.
Yes, disappointed in Porsche! |
|
2005 BOXTER S MOTOR WENT AT 16000 MILES IMS FAILURE, 2 MONTHS LEFT ON WARRANTY, PORSCHE INSTALLED A NEW MOTOR & GAVE ME A NEW LOANER CAR TO USE. AT NO COST TO ME. |
