100,000 miles!
11/29/2010 7:28:58 PM
Over the Thanksgiving holiday, I drove over 1,200 miles all over California. During the drive, I reached the milestone of 100,000 miles! The car is doing perfectly well and was a great joy to take on such a long trip. Cheers!

Today, on Labor Day 2008, the rebuilt engine reached just over 1000 miles on it and it's doing perfectly well!
drive to malibu
7/12/2008 7:07:50 PM
we took the car on a real test drive today and went over to malibu and up the pacific cost highway.
the rebuilt engine now has about 170 miles total on it, and it's doing fine.
it passed!

I took the car in for a smog test this morning, and it  passed with flying colors! emissions were very low.
then it was off to dmv for the sticker, and then to work and back home.
the top was down the whole time, of course. :)

I've taken the car on several test drives, and it's running great. tomorrow morning the car will get a smog test - hopefully all goes well!

yes, it's alive again! this past weekend the engine installation was completed, and was test started. runs great, sounds great drives great! so far, all is well and i've taken it on a few test drives.
the only bad news is that i damaged the drivers side door moving the car out of the garage (grrr....). sorry, i don't plan on doing any body work demonstrations ;)
-really fun car.

cheers

the engine, transmission and mounts were all installed into the vehicle this evening. there are plenty of minor things to connect, but we should be doing a test run this week.

long block now complete
6/23/2008 10:50:12 PM
this evening the cam shaft fine timing adjustment was successfully carried out without the use of Porsche special tool 9612!
The long block is now complete -ready to bolt on all the ancillaries.
both heads now installed
6/22/2008 9:30:27 PM
Both cylinder heads are now installed. There is a lot of new footage including pictures for a time-lapse video. At this point, I am assessing the camshaft fine adjustment requiring use of Porsche special tool  9612 (000 721 96120). An equivalent tool will be made, or improvised. Hopefully, the cylinder head video will be up this week.
one head installed

cylinder head 1-3 is now installed, and installation of cylinder head 1-4 has started. A new video will be up soon!

found cracked head BOLTS!
6/17/2008 8:13:05 PM
before installation of the Boxster S cylinder heads, I discovered that two of the cylinder head bolts were cracked. during cleaning, I noticed a 'nick' in the shoulder of the bolt, but upon closer inspection I noticed a hairline crack extending toward the shank and up toward the top of the head of the bolt. one bolt came from one head, and one from the other. I wonder if this condition could have lead to the cracked head -that is, could this cause the bolt to loosen, and cause fatigue? Unlikely, but I must admit that seeing two cylinder head bolts with cracks in them does not make me comfortable. What does this say about Porsche quality?
boxster troubles?

I'm interested to know if any of you fellow Boxster owners have had any serious engine trouble?
